When your computer turns on, certain programs set themselves to automatically run. These programs can be malicious or useful. You can see these programs by clicking control+alt+delete once. They can make your computer run significantly slower by using resouces to spam you or steal your information to sell to marketers.
Programs like ccleaner have built in editors to take off junk. You can manually delete entries by typing start > run > msconfig.
