PersonalOut of boredom, I went to heaven.com and jesus.com. They both are well saturated with Godly google ads. I noticed particularly in heaven.com that it's meta tags for description and keywords contain "donate car".
This is a high paying keyword. By law, such charities are obligated to pay %65 of the proceeds. Some scams don't even do that so they get 100% profit on the cars they sell. Since it's their main keyword groups pay big money per click on the ads, since their return of investment, for a free car, is so high.
Also heaven.com has advertising on how to get in the ministry selling a package for only 90$. That's right for only 90$ you can become closer to God.
It's funny to see these sites, likely owned by atheists who target their site to their visitors rather than making them genuine. If you're looking for internet salvation try elsewhere.
Like televangelists some groups earn million marketting to evangelicals. Some groups have "branches" in which the corporate owners are not even that religion. They get a percent of the profits and use it to build more chain churches.
The internet is no different. Whether it's a katrina fund, or a 9/11 fund, there's all kinds of "charities" intended to get money. Some of them are even based in INDIA!! and use such events to scam people(legally at times in the terms of services). Watch out for the sponsored ads, because if people are paying, they have something to gain.
It may seem unethical but many times it's legal. As far as motives, the most obvious is money. Secondary is that many countries, for example India, earns 100$ a month USD, so scamming citizens into paypaling or wiring money doesnt bother them. Scientology is a big mainstream example also, where it's maker, a science fiction writer had always discussed making a religion for profit. The ethics follows media principles... give the people what they want, or cross the line in controversy to keep them talking, but always maximize profits.
