Yahoo Stocks went down 22% in one day lol. I just bought $1000 worth to take advantage of the situation as the stock is at $25.20 a share. I'm setting a reserve at $27 for when the market opens tomorrow. That's dirt cheap. I thought it was great at 29$ about a month ago but missed buying the drop. Soon after Yahoo was among the sponsors of the 1.3 billion viewers watching World Cup soccer. Since the average stock price has been around 33 or 35 getting 10% on the trade in a short time seems really probable. Business Week offers their explanation on why it's failing. I have my own ideas.

Yahoo MAIL is going down to the "exclusive" marketing, enticing memory, and sleek look of of GMAIL. A worm penetrated the Yahoo mail system through an ajax hack recently. There was a gmail javascript hack posted about a year ago in the astalavista hacking network, but it was never published so publicly like the recent yahoo exploit. The writers had already contacted google when they found it, and posted once the exploit was fixed.
Yahoo Video is just an inferior project compared to youtube and google video. A lot of the wrongs it had it made up for later, but many were left with the first impression. It didn't allow embeds, tags, and the video size was largely inferior. At the moment, Yahoo Video is actually not even working. I'm not getting an image.
Yahoo 360 is supposed to be a blogging/social networking mix. It fails miserably to compete with sites like myspace, xanga and livejournal. Way over complicated features and a horrible, confusing interface, making it impossible for impatient people and people new to the web. Yahoo didn't learn from its previous mistakes. People in the 1990s would foremost tell their friends to go to google because it wasn't full of clutter. There was a search bar and not much else. Yahoo on the other hand had its massive directory, which confused people into clicking the categories rather than using the search engine.
All kinds of wonderful API tools and upcoming usefulness are coming from flickr. As people start buying more digital cameras and relying on their computer for entertainment flickr will continue to grow. Growth seems most likely since not many other groups can be able to provide for the bandwidth and server space required to successfully implement some kind of innovative competition. Technorati and many other major sites use flickr.
Yahoo Answers is a rel="nofollow" nazi. All links: user profiles, posts, wikipedia or spam, get rel="nofollow" to not give any pagerank credit to recommended sites. Yahoo had the opportunity to make something great, but instead it was a greed nazi. It doesn't link wikipedia, answers.com and other sites that would be of use to research. Instead they link the largely inferior yahoo encylopedia page and yahoo search, as opposed to wikipedia.org and google search. Yahoo does what's best for Yahoo, not what's best for improving an educational resource.
Yahoo Answers basically turned into a forum for kids. They post things to chat: whats your favorite music, whats your favorite movie, do you have a boyfriend, etc. They search to see if the question has been asked before.
Yahoo also, without telling the users, links their questions and answers in yahoo subsites, like tech.yahoo.com where my answer was posted. Before, it was horribly parsed, basically mangling my post with no new lines. It was disgusting to see them use my answers on a subsite just to create more quantity of pages for a new subdomain.
Despite Yahoo not following google's very respectable model of "don't be evil", Yahoo Answers is a very profitable site. It replaces millions of small topical forums in search engine listings as, it's just one big 1 million posts+ forum about everything and anything. Each of those questions has its own ads and keyword rich combinations perfect for crawlers.
In the end, Yahoo still has a massive amount of users to make Yahoo Answers very profitable. See our Yahoo Answers sucks page for more.
Yahoo Publisher pays more than google. Period. Google can give like 3-10 cents per click on generic keywords while yahoo will give 10-20 cents. People from all over the world are using adsense and the quantity of people wanting to serve ads on google for whatever pennies google will give, is massive. Yahoo on the other hand only lets people in the US and Mexico serve their ads. The amount of publishers they have is much less, so they have to pay them more. Yahoo also has related ad targeting, so if you have a really weak paying keyword you can switch it out for a more worthwhile category.
Yahoo Messenger has been integrating somehow with MSN instant messenger. It can send large files and has a bunch of quirks. Again I think it's horribly inferior in that it makes a mess in my registry, tries to trick me into installing other junk like the Yahoo Toolbar and making Yahoo my homepage, and takes up a bunch of megabytes. It's still great for kids and probably the most widely used program. Now that yahoo cleaned up their chat rooms a little bit by tracking IPs and allowing people to report spammers, it seems promising.
Yahoo makes a whole bunch of different interesting projects, especially for developers to use and integrate.
I hate you Yahoo, and I'll never link Yahoo or any of its services without the rel="nofollow" tag. Yahoo is greedy and annoying as hell, but I'm still confident, there's plenty of ignorant people that WILL love you, whether through your trickery or way of advertising all Yahoo Services on every page. Yahoo is plenty strong, and I'll be happy to cash in for a quick 10-15% secure investment. For the long term, Yahoo can go to hell.
Checkout my Mp3 and files search that uses google to find music/albums, anime, games and movies with direct downloads. It's very safe and easy to use, just search for a song, then right click save as to download it.
See my new funny pictures blog. I accidently deleted some of the old blogging software which I made, so I just rewrote everything from scratch. This blog won't be updated anymore =/.
