You may have noticed many spam emails offer the option to opt-out of their list of emails. It may seem like a good idea to send a mail with the submit remove to their specified email address, but it's not.
These are people that spammed you without your permission and don't give a damn to begin with about any privacy or rights you may want. They want to get the max solicitations to the maximum addresses for maximum profits. Sending an email to their "opt-out" list marks your email as active. Active emails mean the person is actually using the account. Many of the addresses are no longer used so finding those emails that are likely to be read is highly prized by spammers. An opt-out list is an easy way to let the spammers know someone did in fact read their solicitation.
Also, sometimes people have forwarding services on some mail clients. For example if you use gmail, you can forward the mail to your yahoo mail account from there. Always check the "TO" part of the message, before you opt out, because it may be forwarded and you may just be giving them another email address.
Only use the opt out button for companies you trust.
I recommend gmail or yahoo for great spam protection. Maybe gmail more, since it's yet to give me a solicitation it didnt mark as spam. Make a new email and never post it on the web. Ever. There's spam bots that'll grab it and put it in a database to sell. They crawl popular sites that often have email addresses.
